Men’s Fashion Trends

With a nearly never-ending stream of new-ins and new-outs, keeping up with the latest menswear collections can be taxing on both your budget and your closet.

Fortunately, some of the biggest trends from 2021 will carry over into 2022 this season. So, in addition to breaking down what you need to keep to master the main trends, we spoke with some industry professionals to get beauty tips that will help you get the most wear out of last year’s purchases.

New utility

For many years, the utility trend has been around for big and tall clothes for men, with the fascination with safari jackets hitting a fever pitch at the Spring/Summer 2021 shows. The design has been revamped for Spring/Summer 2022, with a more all-around “elevated” feel.

From Gucci’s general military jackets (cut from fabric at the first and leather at the latter) to Balmain’s all-over safari styles and Dior’s incredibly glamorous field jacket, next summer is all about dressing like you’re battling your way out of the war (which you kind of will be).

Bomber jacket

For Spring/Summer 2022, bomber jackets will be ubiquitous. And, though this does not come as a surprise to you (bombers? Is it time for spring? The reality is that at the SS21 displays, there would be more variations on the classic airman jacket than we can ever count on two hands.

Gucci’s practical nylon tailored bomber jackets to Philipp Plein’s iconic high-shine flight jackets and both Prada and Hermès’ tailored streamlined bombers, there was a tidiness to the design that seemed less futurist than previous seasons.

Oversized Trench Coat

A trench coat is an early spring favorite to everybody, but for Spring/Summer 2021, the style has been revamped with a florid spin for big and tall clothing. Papery trenches in colors of rock and chocolate dominated at Wooyoungmi, Tod’s, and Loewe, while tracks in rusty rose and dark blue ruled at MSGM, Ermenegildo Zegna, and Études, respectively.

Combining your oversized trench coat with unlikely items is the secret to carrying it next spring. Maybe a pair of shorts and pool swings on your thighs, or, lacking that, nothing except a smile. Consider having your very own custom trench coat online that matches your preferred fitting by visiting online tailor shops such as Blank Label.

Big and bold Bermuda shorts

Bermuda shorts have been making a return on the runways around the world in recent seasons, but for SS21, the style truly falls into its own, with the overall mood being just over the top with its gentle light summer. Shorts were designed in tones of seafoam, lilac, and cotton candy at Casablanca, while patterns dominated Gucci.

Choose a style that finishes just above the knee and issue a comment with your boots if you want to carry your Bermudas next season. For example, a set of this season’s toughest dad sandals or a pair of white running sneakers with tube socks.

Pastel splash

We’ve said it before, and we’ll mention that again: pastels fit for spring. And getting your hands on pastel items, you would like to put over and over will be simpler than ever for SS21.

You’re doing everything incorrect if you’re not carrying a dusty rose and periwinkle (ideally all at once) next season, from the cotton candy two-piece suits on display at Gucci and Ermenegildo Zegna to the sea-foam-tinted crocheted dresses at Prada (which seemed like just the stuff for working remotely).
