[tab title=”EN”]BURBERRY NEW CREATIVE DIRECTOR Riccardo Tisci is the new creative director of Burberry. It was widely known since October 2017 that Christopher Bailey would say goodbye to Burberry after 17 years of collaboration with the brand. Finally, last March 1st, the firm announced in a press release that the Italian designer would take the reins of the creative direction. Tisci started his duties this past March 12th, from the headquarters in the English capital.
It wasn’t an easy journey to get where he is standing today. Born in Italy, he grew up with 8 sisters in the heart of a catholic family. He began to work at age of 12 in his home city. When he got the majority of age, he moved to London is search for a better future. Riccardo Tisci started his story within fashion industry with a scholarship at Central Saint Martins. For his final project, he presented his collection, 8.30. Procession, in which the model Mariacarla Boscono participated; from that moment, she would become an intimate friend of the designer. She would be the one who encouraged him to participate in Fashion Weeks. In spite of the obstacles and difficulties that came along with the launching of his first Fall-Winter’05 collection in Milan, it turned out to be a great success, for which he garnered the signing at French firm, Givenchy.
From 2005 to 2017, Tisci was part of Givenchy’s family, being the head as creative director for the past few years. His collaboration with various artists such as Madonna, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, with other brands like Nike and Puma, and the presence of his designs at the red carpet, got him international prestige. Riccardo Tisci retrieved French firm’s essence and greatness, after Hubert de Givenchy’s retirement in 1995.
The Italian designer is distinguished by his very particular style mixing gothic style and baroque; that’s why Burberry’s decision to hand him over their creative direction was a worldwide surprise. The styles of Christopher Bailey and Riccardo Tisci are very different; nonetheless, we are eager to see the direction the English firm will be taking with Tisci in charge.
