We know so many movies that are based on fashion, but not all movies are able to capture style and become forever iconic. Today’s list is all about 5 iconic fashion movies that have marked fashion’s history in the last decades. If you are into fashion you’ll feel hooked! Go get your popcorns and be ready to cry, laugh and why not, take some notes.

1. FUNNY FACE  Audrey Hepburn was a fashion lover, as shown in Funny Face. Most of the costumes that are used in the film were designed by the iconic Edith Head, but the essence of Funny Face is a collection of dresses that were designed by Hubert de Givenchy especially for the film. Hepburn requested all her costumes to be Givenchy: “His are the only clothes in which I am myself.” Givenchy is not the only connection of the movie to the world of fashion, however – his designs play a big role in the film.

Clueless iconic fashion movies

2. CLUELESS is a 1995 American coming-of-age comedy film written and directed by Amy Heckerling. Its stars are Alicia Silverstone, Stacey Dash, Paul Rudd and Brittany Murphy. It is loosely based on Jane Austen’s 1815 novel Emma, updating the setting to modern-day Beverly Hills. Vanity Fair, The Guardian and Daily News talked about the legacy the movie left; the preppy style, the use of accessories such as hats or earrings on the nose, the use of colors over the classic black and the importance of power dressing. Similar outfits have been seen in collections of several fashion houses, like in the case of Miu Miu’s Pre-Fall of 2010. This surely is one of our favorite iconic fashion movies.

Belle de Jour iconic fashion movies

3. BELLE DE JOUR The 1967 film Belle de Jour by Luis Bunuel captivated the audience with live surrealism scenes full of eroticism that has made this movie a masterpiece. The story centers on Severine Serizy, a tall blond woman who’s married, but meets the need to live her sexual fantasies as a woman of another class. Wonderfully played by Catherine Deneuve, you can see how this film made her an international star. Despite the plot story, the sexual theme is not so relevant due to the artistic print of the film, which made Belle de Jour one of the most iconic fashion movies. Classic and timeless with a touch of fetish, the Belle de Jour costumes were designed by Yves Saint Laurent.

Heathers iconic fashion movies

4. HEATHERS Another of our fave iconic fashion movies? Heathers! It is about a group of trendy girls in a high school movie of the 80s. The fashion highlights of the movie are bright, quilted, plaid blazers, colors and of course scrunchies. A curiosity of this movie is that the scrunchie plays a relevant role in the movie when Heather Duke (played by Shannon Doherty) takes the red scrunchie from her old rival and carries it, making the statement she is now the most powerful girl in the group.

La Dolce Vita iconic fashion movies

5. LA DOLCE VITA focuses on Marcello Rubini, a writer from a middle-class family, who has put aside his literary dreams to end up being a fashionable gossip columnist and reporter on the sensational activities surrounding the Via Veneto lifestyle. The style in this film has survived for several generations, same thing happened to the designs of Yves Saint Laurent we can spot in the movie. This movie is a true classic in this list of iconic fashion movies.
